The Close-Up Game

A carpet of semi-transparent hexagons of varying scales competes to be "in front." There is no subject: there is a mobile foreground that shifts with the gaze. Depth arises from the time of viewing, not from perspective. The work showcases the cardinal rule of Optical Futurism: erasing the object and leaving the field to the forces of perception. Hexagonal layers with transparencies and nestings create micro-parallaxes: where the eye rests, the level "rises" and everything else recedes. The dominance of blues and greens (with accents of purple/amber) produces a cold vibration; the overlappings generate third colors and double edges, signs of a controlled instability. The larger hexagons function as focus anchors, the smaller ones as dynamic grains that activate lateral scrolling.
